Building a home starts with the perfect lot. Or does it? Read on for advice and what to expect when searching for a lot.
If you're planning to build a new home, finding the right lot is step one. Sounds pretty easy for the most part. Pick your neighborhood and schools, pick your lot size, pick your price, and voila! It all falls into place. Unfortunately for most people it’s not that easy. It’s typically more time-consuming than expected, and something usually has to give.
Our advice to our customers is to prioritize. What’s most important to you? Is it location, lot size or price? Once you have figured that out, start your search, and don’t be surprised if your priorities change as you review what’s available. Maybe the neighborhood and schools you desire are comparable to the ones with the less expensive land down the road. Or maybe you’ve decided you definitely need a master suite on the first floor (and larger lot) and you’re willing to pay a bit more than you originally thought.
Most people tend to spend a year looking for their ideal lot, and learn a lot about themselves along the way. Don’t get frustrated, just be patient. You will eventually find a wonderful lot to build your home.
